Grass and Pillow (Grass Pillow) is a phased collaboration with Instant Places, the duo of Laura Kavanaugh and Ian Birse. Drawing on Instant Places and Tina Pearson’s history of improvisation, and integrating materials and substances from specific creative and performance sites, Grass Pillow was envisioned as a 3-pointed unfolding of material inspired by and informed by lichen.
The collaboration began with telematic audio sessions through Skype in early 2017, included a telematic audio performance for Art’s Birthday January 17 (broadcast through NAISA), continued in a 10-day research and creation residency in June, 2017, in Victoria BC, and manifest in a creative and production residency in a forested location near South River, Ontario.
